Maybe we shouldn’t cross-sell in 2022. This year feels like a decade on its own for business people. Someone even said let’s celebrate Christmas now so we wrap it up forever. We had elections in Kenya a few months ago and everything including sales was at a standstill until then.
Don’t mind marketers who made a kill with the electoral campaign posters and advertisements in the past elections.
We are experiencing stubbornly high inflation rates than normal and for most businesses, the goal is to make sales no matter what. Marketers are head over heels to ensure their campaigns meet their KPIs. Here’s where cross-selling comes in.
Cross-selling is basically additional product recommendations and offers complimentary to what a customer is asking for. It’s much more common in fast-food restaurants. For instance, when you order fries and they ask if you would like a soft drink or chicken to accompany it.
Roi Solutions defines it as when you sell a customer something in addition to the product or service they were originally shopping for.
Another perfect example is during the black Friday sales where companies offer complementary products when you make a purchase of what’s on offer.
Ever bumped on the “Similar searches on Google ” or more recommendations on e-commerce platforms after checking out a product? that is cross-selling.
Sometimes it includes recommending a much cheaper option of the product your customer is looking for so you both get to a win-win situation where you made a sale and the customer got something to take home.
A much closer-to-home option for content creators includes allowing guest posts on your blog. Or summing up as an influencer for blogging gigs.
The goal of cross-selling is to maximize the value of the initial purchase made or enhance the experience with the product.
Should we still cross-sell in 2022?
The answer is definitely a yes.
We are looking for ways to bring in more revenue in our companies and a chance to cross-sell is the last thing we can skip.
Cross-selling makes customers feel more understood. While you are going to make a sale out of it in the long run. The extra mile you go to make a customer satisfied will win them the next purchase.
A 2018 study by sprout social found that nearly 64 per cent of consumers want brands to connect with them. Your customers want your team to be there for them when something goes wrong.
Cross-selling also builds customer loyalty. When they are more connected with your brand, they’re more likely to stick around even when things crumble on your end. They’re more likely to turn out as brand ambassadors who will market your company to others for free.
Thirdly, cross-selling increases company earnings. When a customer is satisfied with your services, they will come back for more. You’ll also spend less time and resources on customer acquisition.
