10 years ago, the digital space was so fresh and raw, little did we know we are yet to experience its full potential.
Every day, we encounter a newer side of the concept we must deal with. In our early career years, social media wasn’t a big deal for companies and very few of them had a digital footprint and cared less about having one. Today it’s part and parcel of their daily life and they depend on it to connect with customers, sell products and even communicate.
What do we need to know in the digital space now?
Video ads will dominate the digital space
Short video apps like TikTok came up for entertainment purposes and shortly after, video adverts are the order of the day.
In 2017, we had about 63 per cent of businesses using video ads for marketing and by 2019, the number had grown to 87 per cent and it’s bigger now.
We are naturally visual beings and anything that captures our attention sticks in our minds. Video marketing is a good way to increase customer lifetime value as well as optimize your marketing campaigns.
Mobile preference over desktop
There’s high penetration of mobile devices that are outsmarting desktop traffic which should be a priority for marketers in the digital space.
Mobile handsets have become a sure way for marketers to win big on advertisements. They make up roughly 60 per cent of website traffic. From shopping to browsing or just social media, users are switching to mobile devices throughout the day for their everyday activities.
As a marketer, you should leverage more on mobile traffic especially if your target market is luxury products, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
Cyberbullying
We have many incidences where social media has spread unrealistic views and opinions against people that have affected them negatively.
With the rise of social media, cyberbullying has been rampant. About 37 per cent of young people between the age of 12 and 17 have been bullied online according to Do something research.
The LGBTQ+ community also experiences a higher rate of online harassment than any other group.
While finding your way through the digital space, make the most of the privacy settings on the site. Post what is only necessary if possible.
